Project overview
Embark designed key tools and experiences across the public site, including a fun Interest Quiz for kids, a Career Matcher for teens, a School Finder for cost transparency, and supporting ad experiences to broaden Embark’s reach. Together, these features help families understand what’s possible, discover future paths, and make informed decisions—with RESP playing a clear and empowering role.
What I worked on
Interest Quiz (Kids 5–12)
A playful, personality-driven quiz helping kids discover what they might want to be—while educating parents about how RESP savings can support those future paths.
Career Matcher (Teens 13–17)
A structured experience for teens and parents to explore potential careers, required education, future earning potential, and the cost of each path.
School Finder
A parent- and teen-friendly tool that shows:
school options
tuition + living costs
program requirements
how RESP can fund their goals
Public Ads + Growth Campaigns
Created visual concepts and landing experiences to reach new parents, clarify RESP myths, and build trust at scale.

Challenges
RESP is complicated.
Most parents don’t know:
how RESP grants work
how much they could actually save
how to choose the right school
or what future careers their children may want
And most banks don’t help—their sites are jargon-heavy, transactional, and not built for real family needs.
Embark saw a gap:
Parents need trusted, easy-to-understand information long before they’re ready to open an account.
Opportunity
Create an engaging public ecosystem that:
Builds trust with expecting and new parents
Helps kids explore interests early
Helps teens and parents find schools based on goals + finances
Educates users about RESP benefits in a simple, human way
Expands Embark’s market reach through accessible content and tools

Design process
Research
Interviewed parents with varying financial literacy levels
Reviewed competitor sites + financial education tools
Mapped needs across age groups: expecting parents, young kids, teens
Identified emotional pain points (confusion, mistrust, overwhelm)
Design Approach
Plain-language explanations instead of financial jargon
High-trust, modern visual direction
Tools that guide users with next steps, not just static content
Clear pathways connecting each tool into the broader Embark ecosystem
Deliverables
Interest Quiz UX + UI
Career Matcher flows
School Finder architecture + design
Public ad creative concepts
Responsive layouts, landing pages, and visual system updates

Impact
The redesigned public ecosystem helped parents understand RESP with more clarity and confidence. Engagement with educational tools increased, and families began exploring school options, career paths, and savings opportunities long before opening an account. This shift strengthened trust in Embark by positioning the brand as a supportive partner—not just a financial provider.
By giving parents and kids intuitive tools, relatable explanations, and age-appropriate experiences, we expanded Embark’s reach across every stage of a child’s growth and made RESP planning feel more approachable, actionable, and empowering.
Results
This project pushed me to design for a wide range of users—from curious kids to teens planning their futures and parents making long-term financial decisions. It taught me how powerful clear, educational design can be in building trust with families who are overwhelmed by complexity.
If I could take the work even further, I would deepen the experience with richer, more connected data. Our School Finder would benefit from more robust backend information, including detailed program breakdowns, admission requirements, and direct links to school pages. This would give parents a more seamless way to explore accurate, up-to-date options without jumping between multiple sources.
Similarly, the Interest Quiz could become more meaningful with a larger and more diverse career dataset. The current results are helpful but still broad; expanding the database would allow us to highlight lesser-known but promising career paths that often go overlooked. This matters because kids’ dreams and futures shouldn’t be limited by the data we have access to.
Overall, this project reinforced a key lesson: great design becomes even more impactful when paired with strong, comprehensive data. As the product evolves, there’s a huge opportunity to give families an even richer, more empowering planning experience.
